Kerala has been in the highest percentage state in the literacy count in the country.Kerala has the highest Human Development Index (HDI) in the country with 0.920 according to the Institute of Applied Manpower Research. It also has the highest literacy rate; 93.91% which is considered the best in the country and ranked as first. The educational system which is usual in the state schooling is for 10 years, which are modernized into lower primary, upper primary and secondary school stages with a 4+3+3 pattern.
After 10 years of secondary schooling, students typically enroll in Higher Secondary Schooling in one of the three major streams such as liberal arts, commerce or science. Upon completing the required coursework, students can enroll in general or professional under-graduate (UG) programs. The mainstream of the public schools are affiliated with the Kerala State Education Board. Other common educational boards are the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE), and the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). English is the language of instruction in most self-financing schools, while government and government-aided schools offer English or Malayalam. There were about 12644 schools in Kerala during 2010-11 , out of which 4504 were got schools and 7277 were aided schools while 863 were unaided schools.
Education in Kerala is mainly divided in HSE (Higher Education ) and VHSE (Vocational Higher Secondary Education) . HSE is generally school education of class 10th and VHSE is education that is imparted at plus two level with the objective to achieve self/wages/direct employment as well as vertical mobility.
The Government of Kerala has not only been actively promoting school education but has also been setting up the infrastructure necessary to support their ideals. The government has been building schools and successfully running them all over the state. The Kerala Government is trying to provide a hygienic environment and all the basic amenities for the young children so that they can avail the best in the. There are 83% of Kerala’s schools are held in properly constructed buildings. Clean drinking water provision and well maintained wash rooms are being made for the government schools.
