Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit was named after sage Sree Sankaracharya was established in the year 1993 on the banks of the river Poorna.The primary objectives of the University are to impart knowledge in various branches of Sanskrit as well as Indology, Indian Culture, Indian Languages, Indian Philosophy, Fine Arts, Foreign Languages and Social Science and to promote the study and research of Sanskrit through simultaneous promotion of other languages in India and abroad that have enriched the study of Sanskrit. The university caters its function through 9 regional centers in Kalady (main campus), Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Panmana, Thuravoor, Ettumanoor, Tirur, Koyilandy and Payyannur.It is the only University that offers specialized academic programs in Mohiniyattom, Bharatanatyam, Mural Painting, Vedic Studies and Sanskrit (Core).Hon'bl Sri. H R Bhardwaj Governor (in charge) of Kerala is Chancellor of the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit.

Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit Library

The University has a Central Library in the Main Campus at Kalady in addition to a Campus Library. Library have large collection of ancient and modern books mainly in Sanskrit, Social Science and Humanities of around 53,000 Books and 350 Manuscripts, apart from Journals, Periodicals, Newspapers, Thesis & Dissertations. The Library is open from 8.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.
