Sanatana Dharma College in Alappuzha

Sanatana Dharma College is an Arts and Science college established in 1946 and affiliated to the University of Kerala. It is a premier higher education institution that has made a remarkable contribution to the cultural and intellectual climate of Alappuzha. The college is famed for its excellent and committed faculty and modernized infrastructure facilities. A variety of conventional as well as new generation courses in the under-graduate and post-graduate levels are on offer. Among the twelve teaching departments Zoology, Botany and Commerce are research. The college is also recognized by the University Grants Commission. National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accreditted the college at four star level.departments that offer Ph.D. programmes. The college is situated at Kalarcode 4 Kms south of Alappuzha town. It is on the National Highway-47. It is approximately 5 Kms from the KSRTC bus station and around 6 Kms from the Railway Station. The Alappuzha - Changanassery road joins NH-47 on the Northern side of the college.

SD College Administration

The administration of the college is undertaken by an office under the stewardship of the principal who is also helped by the vice-principal. There are separate sections dealing with different aspects of administration including the academic and non-academic requirements of the students, scholarships, examinations etc. Students can approach the office on all working days from 9.30 AM to 12.30 PM and from 1.30 AM to 4.30 PM.

SD College Courses and Departments

The college has undergraduate as well as postgraduate programmes. Pure Science courses such as Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry; Humanities such as Economics and History; Languages like English, Hindi, and Malayalam; and Commerce are offered as subjects for Bachelors programmes. All the science subjects are offered at the postgraduate level. Commerce, Economics, and English are also offered as masters.

SD College Admission Details

• Admission to courses is strictly according to the rules and regulations set by the University of Kerala and the Government. 50 percent of sanctioned vacancies is filled on pure merit. 10 percent is reserved to students belonging to the community specified by the Management. 20 percent is reserved for the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe categories and 20 percent to candidates chosen by the Managing Committee. Admission dates are decided and announced by the University of Kerala.
• Admission to Post Graduate Courses falls in June – July and to Bachelors in July – August every year. Candidates are advised to contact the college office for further information immediately after the publication of the results of the qualifying examinations.
