Kerala Council for Historical Research is an autonomous institution committed to scientific research in history and social sciences. Funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Government of Kerala, KCHR is a recognised research centre of the University of Kerala.KCHR is located at Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala State, India, in the multi-purpose cultural complex Vyloppilly Samskrithi Bhavan at Nalanda.KCHR has a three tier organizational set up with a Patrons Council, Advisory Council and Executive Council. KCHR fellowships offer both academic assistance and monetary support to Indian nationals engaged in the study of Kerala society and culture.
Kerala Council for Historical Research Courses
KCHR offers doctoral, post-doctoral and internship programmes and short term courses in social theory, research methods, epigraphy, palaeography and numismatics.Research, publication, documentation, training and co-ordination are the major domains of KCHR activities.
- Ph.D./Post-Doctoral Research– Affiliated to the University of Kerala, KCHR has a regular stream of students enrolled for Doctoral programmes in the social sciences faculty. UGC prescribed qualifications are mandatory for enrolment.
- Certificate Course in Indian Epigraphy– This short-term course will introduce the students to ancient Indian writing systems. The emphasis will be on South Indian languages and scripts like Brahmi, Vattezhuthu, Kolezhuthu and Grantha.
- Help Desk/Orientation Programme for Social Science Researchers– The programme enables researchers to acquire expertise on the various aspects of social science theory and methods. Monthly or periodical contact sessions will be organized at Thiruvananthapuram.
