Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) founded in 1971 is a government owned Autonomous University of Kerala, India. Originally known as University of Cochin it was reorganized into Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in February 1986. CUSAT offers graduate and post graduate studies and advanced research in applied sciences, technology, engineering, industry, commerce and social sciences. CUSAT offers about 80 programs of study in eight faculties. Twenty two departments, eight schools, nine centers, seventeen recognized institutions for research and seven auxiliary units contribute to the curricular and co-curricular activities. The university consists of 1,200 students and 250 well qualified teachers from all parts of the country, works for international excellence.

Cochin University of Science and Technology is the only University in India to be chosen by the Government of Netherlands as counterpart institution for massive assistance over 12 to 15 years under the M.H.O. programme. It aims towards the excellence in studies and provides various research programs on wide varieties of subject. .

Cochin University of Science and Technology Facilities

• University Library- Cochin University Library was established in 1977.It has built up a balanced land-rich collection of the valuable books, doctoral these, back volumes of periodicals, technical reports, conference, proceedings, and patents. Documents on Science and Technology subjects constitute a major share of its collections. It subscribes to more than 200 Indian and Foreign journals, including indexing and abstracting periodicals.
• Student Welfare Division– This department is generally meant for the welfare of the sudents of Cochin University of Science and Technology.Newspaper and magazines are made availabe to the hostel inmates. Student Uniion is elected by the students and college administration which conducts various activities such as Arts Festivals, Sports Festivals, Cultural Programmes, Film Shows, Debating Exercises, Students Exchange Programme with other universities outside the State to promote national integration.There is also a National Service promoting social consciousness, sense of responsibility, discipline and dignity of labour among the University students.
• Physical Education Division– Activities of this Division include Basket Ball, Foot Ball, Cricket, Shuttle Badmintion, Table Tennis, Throw Ball, and Athletics. Every year intra-university tournaments, both for men and women, are conducted in the above areas. Contingents are also prepared for taking part in various Inter-University tournaments, under the coaching and guidance of an Assistant Director for Physical Education.

Cochin University of Science and Technology Admission Details

For admission candidates have to give Common Admission Test (CAT) for all the courses available in the University except Ph.D., M.Phil., M.Tech. and the Certificate and Diploma Courses of the Department of Hindi and Foreign Languages. Rank lists for admission to all courses some of them are prepared on the basis of the CAT score. But rank list for M.Sc. Industrial Fisheries, M.B.F., LL.B., LL.M, M.B.A. (Full time ), M.B.A.(Part-time), M.A.(Business Economics) & Diploma in Export Management are prepared on the basis of CAT Score, group dioscussion, and /or interview. Candidates shortlisted on the basis of their performance in the CAT, alone will be required to attend group discussion and/or interview.

CAT(Common Admission Test)
CAT consists of two parts Part I and Part II consisting of objective type questions. Part I of CAT for post-graduate programmes including B.Tech. courses in Polymer Science and Rubber Technology and Instrumentation will be based on a subject that qualifies the candidates for the course which he/she is seeking admission and the candidate has to specify the subject(s) he/she is seeking under Part II.

For B.Tech. courses for exception of Polymer Science and Rubber Technology and Instrumentation, Part II will consist of three sections one each in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. For courses like M.B.A. , L.L.B. , M.B.F. etc. where graduates of any discipline are eligible to apply, Part II paper will be specific to the corresponding course. Those who have applied for such courses will have to take a separate Part II examination that qualifies them for other subjects in Table. All questions wil contain questions that are objective in nature. M.B.F candidates have to write the same Part II as that of M.B.A. viz, Management Aptitude.

Cochin University of Science and Technology Location and Development

Cochin University of Science and Technology is located 15Km north of Ernakulam city of Kerala and is spread over an area of 180 acres. The university is located in serene and beautiful place. Rolling hills with patches of thick green and planted trees, plenty of fresh air and sunshine lift the spirit of students, staff and faculty. The main administration block of the univeristy is made up in traditional Kerala style.It has 14 teaching and research departments, 8 auxiliary institutions, 5 hostels, guest house, visiting faculty complex, computer centre, administrative office, central library, staff quarters, post office, bank, health centre, play grounds and courts and a gymnasium. Another campus of University is located in Ernakulam, by the side of the sea, and houses the School of Marine Sciences, the School of Environmental Studies and the Department of Industrial Fisheries and men’s hostel.
