Govt. College of Engineering in Kannur

The Govt.College of Engineering Kannur was established in 1986 as a center for imparting quality engineering education in northern Kerala. A tour through this site gives you a first hand experience of life in the campus and what makes the institute one of the premier engineering colleges in south India.The present campus of the college is located at Mangattuparamba, 15 km from Kannur Railway station on the national highway 17. The foundation stone of the college main building was laid by Sri.K.Karunakaran, the then chief minister of Kerala. The college is functioning in a large 75-acre (300,000 m2) unified academic complex, having sound and self-sufficient infrastructure, at Mangattuparamba, 15 k.m from the headquarters of the Kannur district.

Govt. College of Engineering Kannur Facilities

• Gathering Halls-College has 2 open air auditoriums with a seating capacity of about 1000-1500. We also have a seminar hall in the main block with public addressing system , projectors and other facilities. Main blocks also has a separate conference hall aiming the administrative purposes.
• Sports Facilities– cricket, football, volleyball, basketball, badminton , table tennis and also indoor games like caroms and chess.
• Transport– The college provides bus facilities to students and staff. At present the college has three buses and they operate from Kannur and Payyannur to the college.
• Co-operative Stores– A students Co-operative Society, named the Government College of Engineering Students Co-operative Stores Ltd. (No. C1020), Kannur has been functioning in the college for supplying books, stationary and educational accessories to the students.
• Canteen– The college canteen is run on a co-operative basis from 1995 onwards, with the active involvement of students and staff.
• Hostels– The college has four hostel blocks – two each for boys and girls, each with an intake of about 150 inmates.
• Library-The library has a main lending section consisting of over 23000 books and a reference section of another 2000 books covering, beside the core branch subjects, topics on management, computer, higher education and industry.
• Center Computing Facility-Apart from mini computer labs provided in each departments Govt. College of Engineering , Kannur has a centralized computer center to cater the more advanced needs of the students and faculty .

Admission Details

Candidate with a pass in the pre-degree examination of the universities in Kerala state with mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects, or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto, securing a minimum of 50% marks in mathematics, and 50%marks in mathematics, physics and chemistry put together are eligible for admission.

Age: There is no restriction with regard to age for admission. Selection of candidates is based on an entrance examination in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry conducted by the commissioner for entrance examination, Government of Kerala.
